Three simple steps —

one huge difference:

Clean Toilets

Clean Water

Clean Hands

WHAT WE DO

H2O works together with schools in the developing world, helping them to set up and manage practical and sustainable sanitation and hygiene facilities. We work with individual schools together with teachers, community leaders and government to determine their specific needs. Our sanitation blocks are specifically designed to cater to the children's needs. In particular we pay attention to “girl friendly” schools, with clean toilets (with doors) and water for washing hands.  Each school has different needs based upon numbers, ratio of boys to girls and access to city plumbing. We invest the money we raise into solving these problems.

We also educate the children and teachers about the importance of hand washing and personal hygene.

By creating "Toilet Committees" we ensure that the toilets are maintained and looked after on an ongoing basis.

We decided to help...and we'd like you to  join us.

WHY WE DO IT

Clean and safe toilets are prerequisites for health, dignity, privacy and education.

A decade of civil war in Sierra Leone left much of the country without adequate sanitation and clean water. Most schools in Freetown, have no toilet facilities and those that do are mostly inadequate. Lack of facilities and poor hygiene affect both girls and boys, although inadequate sanitary conditions at school have a stronger negative impact on girls. More than a half of the schoolgirls who drop out of school in upper primary classes do so because they miss school periodically particularly during their menstrual periods.

Typically, boys and girls do not have their own lavatories. The absence of toilets for girls does not only affect school attendance but also contributes to the denial of their right to dignity and quality education. Living without safe, clean sanitation causes water-related diseases, keeps children out of school, robs children of their dignity.

YOUR IMPACT

We invest the money you donate into providing sanitation blocks for schools. Our team works closely to ensure that every dollar is accounted for and then reports back to our donors. Three easy steps...clean toilets, clean water and clean hands will reduce the spread of many diseases and help to keep kids in school where they can get an education and become valuable members of their community. Children are quick to learn and often act as ambassadors of good hygiene within their families. With clean toilets and water facilities it is also easier to recruit good teachers to work in the schools.

Together with your help, we can really make a tangible, practical difference to the everyday lives of children.
